Moonta is situated on Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, an easy two hour drive north from Adelaide’s CBD, 20 minutes from central Yorke Peninsula; or easily accessible from the west coast, about an hour from Pt Pirie and 2 hours from Pt Augusta.
Visiting Moonta is a fascinating journey back into the mining history and heritage of the area. The National Trust SA, Moonta Branch are proud to present a variety of attractions which are all staffed solely by our wonderful volunteers. Other things to also do whilst in Moonta include fishing, swimming or generally relaxing.
You can visit for a day or a week- depending on what your interest is. Whilst here explore the other Copper Coast towns of Kadina and Wallaroo including the National Trust areas. It is all an easy days drive around the area.



Moonta and surrounds
Moonta is one of the towns in a region known as the ‘Copper Triangle’ which includes the mining town of Kadina and the port at Wallaroo as well as Pt Hughes.
Adelaida to Moonta
Adelaide to Moonta is an easy 2 hour drive heading north on Pt Wakefield Road- or national highway 1 to Pt Wakefield and then the Copper Coast highway to Moonta.
Pt Augusta/ Pt Pirie to Moonta
Take National Highway 1 south to Moonta, a comfortable 2 hour drive.
